Course Description and Target Audience
The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview regarding the impact of psychological testimony. Preparation with attorneys will be addressed as well as how to navigate direct and cross examination. The second half of the workshop will be spent conducting a mock trial. There are no known potential risks to attending this course.
The target audience is mental health providers (advanced doctoral level psychology trainees, psychologists in practice, master’s level clinicians etc).
Learning Objectives
- Participants will learn the Federal Rules of Evidence pertaining to expert testimony.
- Participants will become familiar with the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychologists.
- Participants will become familiar with the presentation of psychological testing in the courtroom.
Presenter Information
Christina A. Pietz, Ph.D., received her Bachelor’s degree from Creighton University, a Master’s degree from Sam Houston State University, and a Doctoral degree from Texas A&M University. She served as a Forensic Psychologist at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, in which capacity she has worked for 24 years. She has also worked in private practice for over 25 years. Dr. Pietz has testified and/or consulted in nearly all 50 states, has qualified as an expert witness in federal, state, military, and juvenile courts, and has conducted competency, insanity, death penalty, fitness for duty, disability, child custody, and parenting capacity evaluations.
