Course Description and Target Audience
This course provides an introduction to integration of primary care and behavioral health services. The presentation will primarily focus on understanding patient centered medical home principles, utilizing these principles in bidirectional integration services, and brief services within a pediatric population. Emphasis will be made on health behavior change as it relates to childhood obesity. There are no risks associated with this presentation.
The target audience is mental health providers (advanced doctoral level psychology trainees, psychologists in practice, master’s level clinicians etc).
Learning Objectives
- List primary underlying treatment principles within a patient-centered medical home (PCMH).
- Describe brief behavioral health interventions for use with pediatric population for emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Explain the role of pediatric psychologist in intervention for childhood obesity.
Presenter Information
Carrie Cadwell, Psy.D., earned her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology with a certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and specialty track in neuropsychological assessment. She has worked as a clinician in both outpatient and residential settings and has an outpatient clinic managerial background. She has taught classes in this material for undergraduate psychology degree programs and regional and state conferences.

Course Description and Target Audience
This presentation will provide a broad overview of state psychology licensing boards, with special emphasis on the regulations governing the practice of Psychology in the State of Indiana. Participants will learn about ways to work with respective psychology licensing boards and avoid appearances before them for misconduct. An update on the currently important topics of telepsychology and mobility will be reviewed. Resources such as The National Register and the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) will be reviewed. There are no known risks to this presentation.
The target audience is mental health providers (advanced doctoral level psychology trainees, psychologists in practice, master’s level clinicians etc).
Learning Objectives
- Participants will demonstrate an understanding of the roles state psychology licensing boards play in regulating the practice of psychology in various jurisdictions.
- Participants will be able to list the common reasons psychologists are asked to appear before a state psychology licensing board and ways to avoid these reasons.
- Participants will demonstrate a greater understanding of the beneficent aspects of state psychology licensing boards and the composition of such boards and their membership.
- Participants will be able to describe the current state of affairs regarding telepsychology and mobility across various licensing jurisdictions.
- Participants will describe the benefits of the following: ASPPB (Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards), The National Register of Health Service Psychologists, and CPQ (Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology)
Presenter Information
Joseph Biggs, Ph.D., is the current Chairperson of the Indiana State Psychology Board (ISPB), which is a division of the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA). The ISPB is responsible for the regulation of the practice of psychology in Indiana. Dr. Biggs has been an ISPB member since August 2008. He also is the Executive Director of a hospital division in west-central Indiana that specializes in telemedicine and its regulatory relationship with healthcare service delivery. Dr. Biggs has been a licensed psychologist, endorsed as a Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP), in Indiana since 1990.
